The Scientist
by Coldplay
The second studio album by the British rock band was built upon their debut album, Parachutes, and made greater use of electric guitar and piano than its predecessor. The second album was critically acclaimed, and both albums won the Grammy Award for Best Alternative Album in back-to-back years.

"The Scientist" is built around a piano ballad, with its lyrics allude to a man's powerlessness in the face of love. Lead singer Chris Martin wrote the song after listening to George Harrison's "All Things Must Pass." The melody came to after Martin could not manage to work on Harrison's song, "Isn't It a Pity" on an out-of-tune piano. The music video was notable for its distinctive reverse narrative, and it won a few MTV Video Music Awards in 2003.
