Ajit Varman (1947 to 2016) was an Indian composer and musician. Ajit Singh Varman was born on March 26th 1947 in Calcutta (now Kolkata), West Bengal, India. Sometimes also credited as 'Ajit Verman', he started his career in the 1960s as a musician playing for the likes of Satyajit Ray, Mrinal Sen, Pankaj Mullick and Salil Chowdhury in Kolkata, as well as for Shankar Jaikishan and Laxmikant Pyarelal in the 1970s in Mumbai, but changed his focus completely in 1975 towards music direction and production. From there, he worked on Govind Nihalani's films "Aakrosh" (1980), "Vijeta" (1982) and "Ardh Satya" (1983), as well as Mahesh Bhatt's two early classic movies "Saaransh" (1984) and the made-for-television "Janam" (1985). Among his best-loved compositions from that era were "Man Anand Anand Chhayo" (featured here), "Andhiyara Gehraya", "Kaanha Re", "Aaj Yun Mile" and "Aaon Na Rahon Mein", and he subsequently supplied the music for many other projects, such as the films "Misaal" (1985), "Andha Yudh" (1987) and "Karm Yodha" (1992), as well as the TV show "Imtihaan" (1995). Ajit Varman died in an Andheri hospital after a short illness on December 15th 2016, aged 69. He leaves his wife Rekha (who worked in Singapore), plus one daughter and a son.

Hundreds of very talented musicians pass away every year, some without much recognition at all. On "Rest In Peace", I aim to give them a fitting 'send-off', with a decent Tribute. I hope you will join me in marking their passing.....
