Andrew's current selection is:
Some Kind Of Fool
by Japan
The track that almost made it onto the Gentlemen Take Polaroids album.

My vinyl copy of the album lists this song on the sleeve, with a small sticker advising that side one track three actually features Burning Bridges.

After its abandonment, Virgin Records planned to release this track in November 1982, during the band's farewell tour. Sylvian persuaded the label to release Nightporter instead, as he wanted to re-record this track with Pierre Barouh at a later date.

Some Kind Of Fool finally saw light of day in 2000, as part of a Sylvian retrospective, Everything and Nothing. Some of the original song lyrics, recorded in French, were returned to their English form and Sylvian's then-wife, Ingrid Chavez, added backing vocals.

An interview with the Gentlemen Take Polatoids producer, John Punter, revealed that Sylvian got cold feet and abandoned this song for the sole reason that the other band members really loved the song and the Virgin A&R team had identified it as single potential.

Sylvian would instead substitute the track for his self-produced solo composition Burning Bridges, which he had recorded for the double seven inch EP of the GTP single, which preceded the album. The EP also included solo compositions by band members Rob Dean and Richard Barbieri, which would later feature on the 2003 remastered Gentlemen Take Polaroids edition.

Lurker and occasional twerker. I made a conscious decision, because of Kate Bush, to not run up hills.
