Delibes: Sylvia (ballet), Act I. Intermezzo et Valse Lente
by Royal Philharmonic Orchestra
Although perhaps best-known for his opera "Lakmé", Delibes also created the musical accompaniments for the suite contained in "Sylvia" (a ballet in three acts, from 1876), as well as "Coppélia", also a three act ballet, but representing an earlier project which was completed in 1870. Another notable contribution by the composer was the writing of the incidental music for performances of Victor Hugo's play "Le roi s'amuse", in the first and third acts.
Conductor: Carl Davis.
