The Purple People Eater
by Sheb Wooley
From the sublime to the ridiculous, literally!
Continuing my #Colours / #Colors theme, & inspired by @FelipeBandido 's Winkle Picker Shoes Blues, being a 'novelty' record, thought I'd post this old chestnut from WAY back.
Turns out 'ol Sheb Wooley was quite an interesting character
"Shelby Fredrick "Sheb" Wooley (April 10, 1921 – September 16, 2003) was a character actor and singer, best known for his 1958 novelty song "The Purple People Eater."[1] He played Ben Miller, brother of Frank Miller, in the film High Noon; played Travis Cobb in The Outlaw Josey Wales; and also had a co-starring role as scout Pete Nolan in the television series Rawhide."
Wooley is also credited as the voice actor who produced the Wilhelm scream sound effect.
"The frequently-used film sound effect first used in 1951 for the film Distant Drums. The Wilhelm scream is often used when someone is either falling from great height or shot, and has become a well-known cinematic sound cliché, and is claimed to have been used in over 149 films."

As if that isn't enough, he also recorded a number of albums & various other singles too.
Here's the B side https://youtu.be/JlU_8g1iGqY & here he is singing in an episode of Rawhide which not only demonstrates that he had a good voice, but also features some of the most extensive & best 'face & eye acting' I've ever seen! https://youtu.be/7Z1fvSgszeo
