by Andrzej Mitan
Andrzej Mitan (1950 to 2018) was a Polish conceptual artist, singer and composer. Andrzej Mitan was born in Pionki, Masovia, Poland, on October 12th 1950. During his early life, he studied at the Uniwersytecie Marii Curie Sklodowskiej, the Akademii Teologii Katolickiej and the Katolicki Uniwersytet Lubelski Jana Pawla II in Lublin. From around the late 1960s, he helped organise the formation of musical art groups from within which he pursued his creative intentions, becoming a member of the collective 'Onomatopeja' from 1968 until 1981, and also belonging to others such as 'Swieta Racja' and 'Super Grupa Bez Falszywej Skromnosci'. He was blessed in his younger days with a clear, powerful singing voice over many octaves, including falsetto. In addition to musical examples of his artistic activity, he was also an art animator, as well as a curator and coordinator of many festivals, exhibitions, concerts and symposia. Among other establishments, Mitan worked at the Centrum Klubowym Politechniki Warszawskiej Riviera Remont, the Centrum Sztuki Wspolczesnej Zamek Ujazdowski, the Centrum Animacji Kultury MKiS and the Mazowieckim Centrum Sztuki Wspolczesnej Elektrownia, acting in the latter location as general superintendent for Powstanie Sztuki, the main arts festival held in Masovia. In 2014, he celebrated his 45th year of working at the Grojeckim Oorodku Kultury centre - this was marked by the release of an album of the works of the 'Onomatopeja' music group, which featured nine of their concert pieces recorded at the Centrum Klubowym Politechniki Warszawskiej Riviera Remont between the years 1975 and 1978. Andrzej Mitan died in Grojec on November 4th 2018, aged 68. [ Translated from:,nie-zyje-andrzej-mitan-kompozytor-i-wokalista-mial-68-lat ]

Hundreds of very talented musicians pass away each year, some without much recognition at all. On "Rest In Peace", I aim to give them a fitting 'send-off', with a decent Tribute. I hope you will join me in marking their passing.....
