by Bob Walsh
Bob Walsh (1947 to 2016) was a Canadian 'blues' musician. Robert Walsh was born in Québec City, Québec, Canada, in 1947 to an "anglophone" family. He began his career in the 1970s with the groups 'Contrebande' and 'Devito Walsh Band', going on to play as part of various ensembles that included the musicians Guy Bélanger, Jean Fernand Girard, Jean Cyr, Bernard Deslauriers and Christian Martin. He had been a fixture in 'blues' clubs and at festivals and concert venues for more than 30 years (with an annual average of more than 200 appearances), including the famed Festival International de Jazz de Montréal. He was a regular performer there, with more than 15 appearances since 1984, including a significant input into their 25th anniversary in 2004. Walsh was also well-remembered for taking part in the "Cabarets des Refrains" alongside 'chanson' singer Sylvie Paquette, and in 2007 he released an album entitled "The Only Soul". This was followed by "Inside I'm All Blue" in 2010 (from which the featured track is taken), "There's a Story Here" in 2012 and "After the Storm" in 2015. All in all, he issued 11 albums in just over 40 years, as well as collaborating with many older and upcoming 'blues' artists, including Jimmy Bowskill, Jack De Keyser, David Gogo, Dawn Tyler Watson, Breen Leboeuf and Martin Deschamps. Walsh received the "Blues with a Feeling Lifetime Achievement Award" from the Toronto Blues Society in 2013, won Québec's "Lys Blues Awards", and had also been awarded a "Félix" in 2003. Bob Walsh died at the Notre-Dame Hospital in Montreal on November 15th 2016, from the after-effects of a heart attack suffered earlier this month. He was 68, and had frequently attended hospital in recent times with heart problems.

Hundreds of very talented musicians pass away each year, some without much recognition at all. On "Rest In Peace", I aim to give them a fitting 'send-off', with a decent Tribute. I hope you will join me in marking their passing.....
