by DJ Arafat
DJ Arafat (1986 to 2019) was an Ivorian deejay and musician. DJ Arafat (or sometimes 'Arafat Muana') was born Ange Didier Huon in the Cote d'Ivoire on January 26th 1986. His mother (stage name Tina Glamour) was also a popular artist in the Ivory Coast, and his father Pierre was a musician too. He started his own music career as a deejay in Yopougon, a night-life district in Abidjan, then left for France to improve his prospects but overstayed his visa in 2005, following which he spent a month in detention as an undocumented migrant. His usual stage name 'DJ Arafat' was given to him by Lebanese friends in the Ivory Coast, and referred to the famous Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat. He became very well-known in his own right for producing 'Coupe-Decale' music in his home country, releasing his debut album "Hommage a Jonathan" in 2003, in tandem with a collaborative single called "Boucan". The featured song "Moto Moto", an homage to the motorcycle, was the first in his country to attract more than one million YouTube views in less than a day (during his life he had multiple motorcycle accidents, including a very serious one in 2009), and another of his songs, "Dosabado", gained over five million views on the video platform over the course of its popularity. He was named 'Best Artist of the Year' at the "Coupe-Decale Awards" in both 2016 and 2017. He also won two "WatsUp TV Africa Music Video Awards" in 2016, as well as two "KORA" awards and one "Kunde D'or " award. DJ Arafat died from a fractured skull sustained in a motorcycle accident in the city of Abdijan on August 12th 2019, aged just 33. http://www.bbc.com/news/amp/world-africa-49323907

† REST IN PEACE †
Hundreds of very talented musicians pass away each year, some without much recognition at all. On "Rest In Peace", I aim to give them a fitting 'send-off', with a decent Tribute. I hope you will join me in marking their passing.....
