Wolves of the Sea

Janis Vaisla (1969 to 2016) was a Latvian musician, with 'Pirates of the Sea'. Janis Vaisla was born in Latvia in 1969, and since his school years had been actively involved in public life. For several years, he worked for the RTU Student Club of the Anglican Church, showing independence tendencies, and helped to restore the student corporation "Selonija". In the early 1990s, he was known for running the popular artistic advancement association "Zvaigznisu Bridis". During this time, their first films were created, with the help of Vaisla, including "Celojums uz Tukumu", "Kovacs" and "Sviests". In 2001, he agreed to participate in a trip around the world by the yacht "Milda", and was also a 'Radio Skonto' 'on-air' personality, as well as creating a number of TV shows for the station 'LNT'. Together with the group 'Pirates of the Sea', he participated in the 2008 Eurovision Song Contest, singing as part of a vocal group but within a musical dance performance. They finished in 12th place. Since 2011, Vaisla had worked with many various youth associations on the website for '', joining other enthusiasts in creating their own TV channel. However, in December 2015, he was diagnosed with the potentially-fatal heart muscle condition cardiac amyloidosis, and a fund was set up to help raise money for the donor search and for a transplant. A suitable donor was recently found, and he and his wife travelled to Germany for the operation. Sadly, Janis Vaisla died on January 9th 2016 in Berlin while waiting for surgery. He was 46.

Hundreds of very talented musicians pass away each year, some without much recognition at all. On "Rest In Peace", I aim to give them a fitting 'send-off', with a decent Tribute. I hope you will join me in marking their passing.....
