Rakhal Chandra Mohanty (1932 to 2019) was an Indian music director, singer, composer and teacher. Rakhal Chandra Mohanty was born on June 26th 1932 in Chatana village, Kendrapara, India. He completed his post graduation in vocal music from the Akhil Bharatiya Gandharv Mahavidyalaya, and learned all he knew about music from prominent singers such as Balakrushna Das and Pandit Bhubaneswar Mishra. Although established as a singer, with a parellel career as a music teacher, he joined 'All India Radio' in 1974 as a music composer, and created soundtracks for many popular and acclaimed music programmes during his 20 year stint with them. Mohanty later directed music at Cuttack Kala Vikash Kendra and Doordarshan, and after becoming a composer for the Odia movie industry provided music for such popular films as "Akshi Trutiya", "Trinath Mela", "Srikrushna Raas Leela", "Amar Prem" and "Ghara Sansara". During his lifetime, he received awards from various organisations for his contributions in the field of music - as well as being honoured with the "Sangeet Sudhakar Balakrishna Das Memorial Award" for in 2017, he had also been the recipient of the "Odisha Sangeet Natak Akademi Award". Rakhal Chandra Mohanty died at his residence in Badambadi, Cuttack, on April 14th 2019, aged 88.
