by A Ragamuffin Band, feat. Rick Elias, lead vocals
Rick Elias (1955 to 2019) was an American singer/songwriter, with 'A Ragamuffin Band'. Richard Robert Elias was born on January 7th 1955 in San Diego, California, USA. He attended Azusa Pacific University near Los Angeles, but in 1984 moved to make music full-time in the city and within a few years was recording with the producer Niko Bolas. However, he was probably best-known for being a founding member of Rich Mullins' 'A Ragamuffin Band', with whom he recorded and toured from 1993 to 2000. He later wrote and produced music in Nashville, Tennessee, also performing in solo concerts throughout the United States and internationally. His music was included in the 1996 movie "That Thing You Do!", plus "Dawsons Creek" and "My Big Fat Greek Wedding". Elias' work appeared on many other albums too, as well as during independently-made films and network TV shows. Across his career, he also operated in a production role for such artists as Amy Grant, Aaron Neville, Michael W Smith and Randy Stonehill, as well as releasing four of his own solo projects. Among his many honours and nominations were those by the GMA, UCMVA and the Nashville Music Awards. His first solo record, "Rick Elias & The Confessions", was voted No. 58 in the 'Top 100 Greatest Albums in Christian Music', as listed by CCM Magazine in 2001. However, in 2018 it was revealed that he had contracted brain cancer, and a benefit concert was held in February 2019 by members of his longtime band (featuring many numbers from their album 'The Jesus Record') to raise money for his medical bills. Despite this, Rick Elias died from his condition at a hospital in Nashville on April 2nd 2019, aged 64. http://www.sandiegoreader.com/news/2019/apr/03/rip-harlequin-and-vision-guitarist-rick-elias/

† REST IN PEACE † ✚
Hundreds of very talented musicians pass away each year, some without much recognition at all. On "Rest In Peace ✚", I aim to give them a fitting 'send-off', with a decent Tribute. I hope you will join me in marking their passing.....
