Blue Eagle
by Bat McGrath
Bat McGrath (1945 to 2019) was an American musician and songwriter. Daniel Paul McGrath was born in Glens Falls, New York, USA, in 1945, and began his musical career in a 'rock' band called 'The Showstoppers'. After the legendary talent scout John Hammond had signed the group to 'Columbia Records', they released two unsuccessful singles - when that band broke up soon after, 'Bat' (as he was nicknamed) and Don Potter formed a duo and released an album called "Introducing" on 'Epic Records'. (Both he and Potter would be inducted into the "Rochester Music Hall of Fame" in the year 2013.) Among his more notable contributions on the songwriting side, he wrote the lyrics for Chuck Mangione's "Friends & Love" in 1970 (and performed it with him in the promotional debut 'live' concert). In the late 1970s, he recorded two highly acclaimed solo LPs on 'Amherst Records' - "From the Blue Eagle" and "The Spy" (today's featured track is from the former album). Next came a foreign release of another album he had recorded in Scotland - called "Whatever Happened To Jousting", it was followed by a CD on 'Mirror Records' called "Mr Right". After then moving to Nashville, Tennessee, he released four more CDs (on his own label) entitled "Back In Love Again", "So I Do", "Communicate" and "Perfectly Flawed". During his career, his self-written songs had variously been recorded by the likes of Wynonna Judd, Kenny Rogers, Earl Thomas Conley, Chely Wright, Chalee Tennison, Chad Austin, John Landry and the band 'Eclipse'. Bat McGrath died from the effects of colon cancer in Nashville on October 1st 2019, aged 73. He had been married to Tricia Cast from the year 2000 until the time of his death. http://www.wxxinews.org/post/bat-mcgrath-iconic-part-rochester-music-scene-has-died

† REST IN PEACE † ✚
Hundreds of very talented musicians pass away each year, some without much recognition at all. On "Rest In Peace ✚", I aim to give them a fitting 'send-off', with a decent Tribute. I hope you will join me in marking their passing.....
