Eyes the Same
by Morning Teleportation, feat. Tiger Merritt, guitar/vocals
Tiger Merritt (c.1987 to 2019) was an American singer and guitarist, with 'Morning Teleportation'. Tiger Merritt was born in Chicago, Illinois, USA, in about 1987. After moving to Bowling Green, Kentucky, to take up a college place, he met keyboardist and songwriter Travis Goodwin there, and the two began to play music together from about 2005. They then joined two other local boys, Tres Coker (drums) and Paul Wilkerson (bass), to form the 'psychedelic rock' band 'Morning Teleportation' in 2009. During their existence, Merritt and the group played 'live' at such venues as the Electric Forest Festival, the Bonnaroo Music Festival and the Sasquatch! Music Festival, while also supporting bands like 'The Flaming Lips', 'Cage The Elephant', 'Primus', 'Phoenix' and Isaac Brock's 'Modest Mouse'. They signed to 'Glacial Pace Recordings' in that same year, and in March 2011 their debut album, "Expanding Anyway", was released on both vinyl and CD (it was produced by 'Modest Mouse' vocalist Brock, who also owned the label). However, in 2011 Wilkerson left the band and Coker was replaced with Joseph Jones the following year (Alex Lindsey, brother of 'Mona' bassist Zach Lindsey, also joined the band full-time to replace Wilkerson on bass). Following these changes, Merritt and the others moved back to their home base of Bowling Green to continue to write new material for a follow-up album. This did not arrive until 2017, and was called "Salivating for Symbiosis". Tiger Merritt died in Kentucky on April 4th 2019, aged just 31. A cause of death has not been revealed. http://pitchfork.com/news/tiger-merritt-vocalist-guitarist-of-morning-teleportation-dead-at-31

† REST IN PEACE † ✚
Hundreds of very talented musicians pass away each year, some without much recognition at all. On "Rest In Peace ✚", I aim to give them a fitting 'send-off', with a decent Tribute. I hope you will join me in marking their passing.....
