Fighting Man
by UFO, feat. Paul Raymond, guitar
Paul Raymond (1945 to 2019) was an English keyboardist and guitarist, with 'UFO'. Paul Martin Raymond was born on November 16th 1945 in St Albans, Hertfordshire, England. He began his musical career in January 1964 as a 'jazz' musician, and later joined the group 'Plastic Penny' as their keyboardist and vocalist. Following this stint, he replaced future 'Fleetwood Mac' star Christine McVie in the British 'blues' band 'Chicken Shack' when she first left for a solo career. He then joined 'Savoy Brown' as their keyboardist and guitarist, subsequently also recording with 'Fleetwood Mac' guitarist Danny Kirwan after he had left that group. Much like Jimi Hendrix, he was left-handed and played the guitar with the strings inverted. He was recruited by the band 'UFO' in 1976 to replace their keyboardist Danny Peyronel, and also wrote songs for them (however, because of a previous publishing deal he could not be legally credited for these songs until more recent years). When Michael Schenker left 'UFO', he joined him in his new band 'MSG' in 1981, but two years later moved instead to ex-'UFO' bassist Pete Way's line-up called 'Waysted'. During his career, he also worked with Phil Mogg and Andy Parker (plus Schenker and Way again in new line-ups of 'UFO', in the periods 1976-1981, 1984-1986, 1993-1998 and 2003-2019). From 1989, he had started his own band called the 'Paul Raymond Project' while in Japan, though apart from himself it had a regularly-rotating roster of musicians over its lifetime. Paul Raymond died from a heart attack in London on April 13th 2019, at 73 years old. At the time of his death, he and the latest 'UFO' line-up had just completed the first leg of their "Last Orders: 50th Anniversary" tour.

Hundreds of very talented musicians pass away each year, some without much recognition at all. On "Rest In Peace ✚", I aim to give them a fitting 'send-off', with a decent Tribute. I hope you will join me in marking their passing.....
