Take the Time
by Dream Theater
I am astonished at myself that I haven't posted any Dream Theater to this point, so here goes:
What happens when you take four guys who are goddamn geniuses at what they do and add it to a record label who is having so much success with other ventures that they simply don't give a fuck?

This. This is what happens.

If there is a weak link here, it's the vocals. And that's not because they're bad, that's because everything else is so damn good.
I have been in awe of these people since I first heard the opening riff of "Pull Me Under" lo these many years ago. Some might ask why I didnt select that track. Simply because that may have been their first, but things have only gotten better and better since then, culminating in "Scenes from a Memory", which is well worth a listen if you have 1 hour and 13 minutes to spare one day.
From a personal perspective, I play bass, and to hear bassist John Myung explaining a tablature note with, 'well, it's just a sixteenth note chromatic run with two 1/32nd grace notes on either end', kinda lets you in on the reason for my fascination: bass was not meant to be played that way. You intrigue me, sir. Do go on.
This is something you'll likely love or detest. There appears to be little middle ground. I hope you'll love it, not just because I hate wasting your time, but because the cult of Theater depends on bringing in new members.
Oops, I've said too much again, haven't I?
Enjoy, good people...
