Written by Don Burch in 1958 and first recorded by The Slades a vocal group from Austin Texas Who refer to it as You Cheated, it reached #42 in the Billboard charts. Almost immediately because of a change in distribution the song was covered by LA band The Shields formed by American producer George Motola specifically to cover the song as You Cheated You Lied. It was more successful than the Slades original reaching #12 in the Billboard Pop chart

The Shangri Las debut LP Leader of The Pack was strangely unsuccessful reaching only #109 in the Billboard chart and never in the UK despite the top 20 success of the title track (#1 USA) and sure enough the sophomore LP (this) never charted although some singles had some Billboard success
