Love Hurts
by The Liverbirds
Written by the American songwriter Boudleaux Bryant and first recorded by The Everly Brothers in 1960 it was included on the album A Date with The Everly Brothers but not released as a single.

Roy Orbison had the first hit in 1961 originally released as a b side to Running Scared Love Hurts received significant airtime in Australia as a result a double A side was dropped reaching #5.

In the USA Nazareth got to #8 in the Billboard Hot 100 in 1976. It had been recorded as a power Ballard and it also hit #41 in the UK but gained the top position in Canada the Netherlands, Belgium, South Africa and Norway, and probably remains the best-known recording. Nazareth originally recorded it in 1974 and included it on the LP Hair of the Dog and it took over a year to chart as a single.

In the UK the first and best performing version was by Traffic drummer Jim Capaldi whose version made #4 and #97 in the Billboard Hot 100

The Liverbirds were a #girlgroups from Liverpool who made their name in Hamburg's Star Club where The Beatles also made their name. They were referred to as The Female Beatles for a while.
