by Echo & The Bunnymen
Tomorrow [15 November] marks the 40th anniversary of the first gig performed by Ian McCulloch, Will Sergeant, Les Pattinson and drum machine 'Echo' at Eric's on Mathew Street in Liverpool, supporting The Teardrop Explodes.

This is an early, rough recorded version of the one song they managed to play that night, after a malfunction caused Echo to break down and loop endlessly for the best part of 20 minutes, during which the rest of the band kept playing and singing.

It was first issued on the compilation Street To Street - A Liverpool Album, which also included cuts from a few other future famous faces (and voices) in The ID, later to be become OMD, and Big In Japan, whose members included Bill Drummond, Ian Broudie and Holly Johnson.

Under the original/alternative name 'I Bagsy Yours', it was then recorded for a John Peel session in August 1979 - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XnvmBYnt6dg - before being knocked into its final recorded shape, with real drummer Pete DeFreitas by then installed, for the début album Crocodiles the following year - http://www.godsjukebox.com/JimBergson/echo-and-the-bunnymen-monkeys/.
