Curveball time! Upon release this début single went straight into the UK chart at No. 2, which was then a record for the highest ever new entry position achieved by an artist who had never previously had a hit. (This would be broken a year later, however, when 'Saturday Night' by Whigfield became an instant No. 1 - but don't worry, I won't be posting that).

Originally, this song incorporated a sample from Tracy Chapman's 'Fast Car', but clearance to use it wasn't granted. (Oddly enough, Gabrielle's other UK No. 1 single 'Rise' was also based around another song, but Bob Dylan *did* give permission for 'Knockin' On Heaven's Door' to be interpolated for free in return for a writing credit, as he apparently liked it. Who knows, he may well even have performed it on stage himself without anyone realising....)
