The Days Of Pearly Spencer
by David McWilliams
#BestSixtiesPop

A haunting one-hit wonder for Northern Irish McWilliams in 1967, though strangely , never made the charts in the UK. It sold a million copies throughout Europe and was plugged constantly on the pirate radio stations throughout the UK ( I remember hearing it a lot in those days too ) but to no avail.
25 years later in 1992, Marc Almond released an excellent version and finally, the song deservedly reached number 4 in the UK charts.

** The eerie "megaphone-type" voice heard on this was achieved by recording McWilliams' voice from a phone box , near to the recording studios!
1967 - Major Minor - United Kingdom
