Have I The Right
by The Honeycombs
#BestSixtiesPop

Lou Reed once said that The Velvet Underground were pioneering in many ways including being the first rock band to have a female drummer. Well, he couldn't have heard of The Honeycombs then because they had a UK number 1 with " Have I the right" a good year or two before the VU even formed and Honey Lantree wasn't given the role as a visual novelty. She really could play.

This record was the 3rd number one smash that legendary producer, Joe Meek created upstairs in his London flat. The others being " Johnny remember me" by Johny Leyton and of course, " Telstar" by The Tornadoes which was he first ever number one by a UK pop/rock band in the States.
Meek was known by many as England's answer to Phil Spector.....Similar in eccentricity and also being a maverick in new production ideas but to be honest he was , believe it or not , probably a fair bit more crazy than Spector!
