I was so close to walking away from The Wombats. As a teen I'd seen them a few times and throughout my twenties I lost count of how many times they'd cropped up sneakily on the bill at festivals.

With the sun beating down and a few bands into the first day already, it was a no brainer to skip this act as it was nothing I hadn't seen before. But as I went to walkaway from the stage with my friend Leah, my other friend Jac called out to say that she was staying.
The crowd was also leaving from the previous act and she'd managed to score herself a comfy spot on the front barrier.

We said bye and went to walk away but then I paused, I had a sudden flash back of all the times I've watched them before. I'd completely ruled them out of my Glasto list, thinking of how people think they're a bit naff and cheesy. But being faced with the chance to see them again I thought of all those times in my early twenties when I walked past a random stage at a festival on my way to another must see act and stopped at the sound of a familiar tune.
'I know this!' a friend would shout, 'haha it's The Wombats!', let's stay for a song or two, we'd agree. Just for a laugh of course!
Next thing we know we'd stayed for the entire set and had lost our voices screaming the lyrics to every single song. I stopped in my tracks and shouted out to my friend Leah who was now being swept away by the crowd 'I'M GOING TO STAY WITH JAC!' and ran back to barrier.

I personally think there's a few things that make a memorable or favourite gig. A band that you know the songs of, good stage presence, a good crowd and even better at least one friend who wants to be there as much as you.
Jac and I spent the next hour jumping up and down, singing at the top of our voices and grinning from ear to ear.
Sheer and utter joy.

That's what The Wombats are. They're not cool, they're not the best singers or the best musicians. They're not the best lyricists (they'd even say that themselves), but they're so much fun.
The wombat's were one of the first bands I ever went to as a 15 year old. I saw them a few times front row too, I remember the pain of the bruise across my rib cage the next day from being crushed by the Brixton crowd against the barrier (Wombat fans can get pretty crazy too!).
They may not be a revolutionary crazy rock 'n' roll band like my dad would have seen at the same age, but they introduced me to live music and started my addiction of going to gigs with my friends for many years to follow. And I felt exactly the same seeing them now over a decade later.

I'm so bloody glad I stayed, as you can probably see from my many toothy smiles in this vid. I guess what I'm trying to say is (which I wouldn't have before Glastonbury reminded me) is that I'm proud to call myself a Wombats fan! No matter how naff that makes me sound and I vow I'll never turn down seeing something that makes me happy again!

Now go find your cheesiest, funnest, guaranteed-to-make-you-smile song and go dance in the kitchen like my mum's always taught me!

I NEVER KNEW I WAS A WOMBAAAAAATS FAN!!! DO DO DO DO DO D-DO DOOOO!!

OK, It's me again. ( Thank you, Kate! )

As you probably guessed, I was elsewhere when the Wombats were on but they looked like great fun to me.

You can see Kate clearly at least 3 times here at..
