Reflex Reaction
by Leon Payne
Ken Burns' series on American country music starts tonight ... at 16 hours there should be plenty of history and great music ... altho the music usually suffers as it tends to get edited down to shards and tatters ...

I noticed that Leon Payne doesn't have a song under his name yet on this site, so it's a good time to fix that. Nicknamed "the blind balladeer" because he was born blind in one eye and lost his sight in the other while a young child, he went on to write for some of the biggest names in country and cut quite a few records himself. Perhaps his main claim to fame was "Lost Highway" by Hank Williams, but his songs have been covered by Merle, Willie, Emmylou, and the list goes on. His lyrics in particular are excellent, and often very clever, a good example being this tune he recorded himself.
