What Happened to Me?
by Pere Ubu
A particularly delightful glimpse into Pere Ubu performing live, showcasing David Thomas's fascinating personality and performing style. This ditty features David on button accordion (aka melodeon) and has a distinct eastern European flavor, enhanced by David Sanborn's soprano saxophone.

This comes from the short lived but incredible US network TV show Night Music (1988-90), hosted by Sanborn. Every show featured performances by a diverse cast of musicians. In addition to Pere Ubu, this particular broadcast included Philip Glass, Loudon Wainwright III and Debbie Harry (!) Loudon Wainwright joins David Thomas on vocals here.

#PereUbuWeek

p.s. as unusual as David Thomas may seem from this clip, in person, off stage, he comes across as very soft spoken, genuine and "normal." I had the pleasure of chatting with him for a few minutes after a show at the Middle East (a small club venue) in Boston back in the mid-1990s.
