Controversy (live 1982)
by Prince
Hard to put into words how much this one hurts. This album (Controversy, released 1981) was my first introduction to Prince when I was in college and it blew me away. Particularly the title track. The album version is not available for posting, but it's great to see this live performance, even though the sound and film quality could be better. This is still my favorite Prince album and one of my favorite Prince tracks, and only partly for reasons related to nostalgia. This and Sexuality from the same album found their way onto numerous party mix tapes in college and beyond.

I saw the incredible Darcy James Argue lead the Rainbow band at Berklee tonight performing a great collection of jazz (see http://www.secretsocietymusic.org/intro/#&panel1-1 ). It somehow seemed appropriate and fitting on the day the world learned we lost Prince. It was comforting to be surrounded by music lovers all (or most all) thinking of Prince, while still enjoying the hell out of Darcy.

Peace. #RIPPrince

p.s. "That's not Lake Minnetonka."
