Don't Shut Me Up (Politely)

jessica lea mayfield's "safe 2 connect 2" and another from this album, "is my presence in the room enough for you?" among others have been oft-played 1-2-years-after-the-fact soothing i-wasn't-alone-after-all anthems. this whole album is a full-powered chamber of resonance for a woman's true, free, swooping, unfettered, expressive voice--something it's felt something, they, who the fuck knows, have been doing their damnedest to try to stifle. but i knew it couldn't be suppressed, not really, not for any real length of time truly.
"you tried to convince me
that i'm somebody that i'm definitely not"
"if there's one thing
i can hear
it's my spirit still breathing,
breathing loud and clear"
