Using You
by Mars Argo
I can't find Mars Argo on Spotify, and I'm guessing this has to do with the lawsuit she brought against former collaborator Titanic Sinclair and pop singer Poppy. Poppy, who has been described as a sort of art project under Sinclair's creative control, seems, in some respects, a lot like Mars Argo.

I like both Mars Argo and Poppy, and I raise an eyebrow at Titanic Sinclair.

But that's a lot of guessing. I know for sure I dig this song.

The main similarity between Mars Argo and Poppy appears to be that both their personas were intended to careen from Princess Peach to David Lynch monstrosity in the lick of a power-pop melody. Sometimes that monstrosity is a blood-spewing wretch, other times she seems to have struck up a naive agreement with whatever darkness is using her amiable pop form as a vehicle. (If you're interested, here's a YouTube video where someone has broken down the "copying": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=slvdHECQTs4)

More often than not, though, they're just singing pop songs. Even if they're crafted as meta-pop songs.

In this music video, there's some psych-lab funkiness going on, but it's pretty tame, with Margo, at most, giving us a Harley Quinn simper. I get why pop is more interesting when it gets dark. And oozing blood has been a thing. (I feel like both Mars and Poppy come out of Lady Gaga.) Can't we just keep on creating?
