Pie-in-the-Face Polka
by Henry Mancini
Polka seems to make people laugh, even while they play it, and I feel like it has a similar reputation to disco. Now, this is a Mancini piece composed for the 1965 comedy "The Great Race," so it's not as though a fat barmuse oompah'd this tune outta some mid-19th century Bohemian, but it doesn't sound mean-spirited as a folk parody -- although you can't really parody something that parodies itself by nature, although whether you could satirize it (by dressing a tuba as Hermann Goering) remains to the Coen brothers. I'm waiting for someone in pop to pilfer it. Maybe Lady Gaga?
