kerlmann's current selection is:
Marmor, Stein und Eisen Bricht (Marble, Stone and Iron Breaks)
by Drafi Deutscher
I was listening to a German podcast this week about home-grown music, and this track caught my attention... mainly as it starts off sounding like 'Get It On' by T-Rex.

Drafi Deutscher was a #Schlager style singer who had a string of hits in Germany in the mid-60s, this being probably his best-known song and arguably the most appealing to a broader listenership. In the 1970s, he wrote and produced for the likes of Boney M, Tony Christie and Nino De Angelo. He died in 2006 aged 60.

An English translation of this ditty:

====================================

Do not cry when the rain it falls, dam-dam, dam-dam,
There is one who holds to you, dam-dam, dam-dam.

Marble, stone and iron breaks,
But not our love.
Everything, everything passes by,
But we are faithful.

Can I not be with you once more, dam-dam, dam-dam,
Remember, you are not alone, dam-dam, dam-dam.

Marble, stone and iron breaks,
But not our love.
Everything, everything passes by,
But we are faithful.

Marble, stone and iron breaks,
But not our love.
Everything, everything, everything passes by,
But we are faithful.

Take the golden ring from me, dam-dam, dam-dam,
If you're sad, then he'll tell you, dam-dam, dam-dam.

Marble, stone and iron breaks,
But not our love.
Everything, everything passes by,
But we are faithful.

Marble, stone and iron breaks,
But our, not our love.
Everything, everything, everything passes by,
But we are faithful.

(Everybody now!)

Marble, stone and iron breaks,
But not our love.
