I Will Survive

#BestSeventiesPop

Happy 67th birthday to singer Gloria Gaynor! Can disco and dance music be pop? Sure, why not?
Written by Freddie Perren and Dino Fekaris, "I Will Survive" was originally released as the B-side to a cover of The Righteous Brothers' song "Substitute" but became a hit when DJs played the other side instead. It hit no. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and the UK Singles Chart on consecutive weeks, and was a worldwide hit.

Alternative band Cake released a cover version in 1996 which I quite enjoy, which Gloria Gaynor described as her least favorite version of the song, due to their use of "profanity." https://youtu.be/bkb-1ryitXU
