You Love the Thunder
by Jackson Browne
#ReleasedIn77

From Jackson Browne's fifth album "Running on Empty," a song written and produced by Browne, "You Love the Thunder." It was recorded live at the Garden State Arts Center in Holmdel, NJ, in September, 1977. (It is now called the PNC Bank Arts Center, and is an amphitheater, where our daughter received her undergraduate degree.) The entire album featured songs themed around life on the road, and was recorded on tour, either live on stage, or in locations associated with touring, such as backstage, on tour busses, or in hotel rooms. The album peaked at no. 3 on the Billboard Pop Albums chart in 1978 and remained on the charts for 65 weeks.

The video is supposedly blocked in 172 countries, but we'll see about that.

Jackson Browne - acoustic guitar, vocals; Rosemary Butler and Doug Haywood - background vocals; Craig Doerge - piano; Danny Kortchmar - electric guitar; Russ Kunkel - drums; David Lindley - slide guitar (that's what Wikipedia says; I think it's lap steel guitar); and Leland Sklar - bass.

Here's a live version from last year: https://youtu.be/X4OFR6hXQDE

"When you look over your shoulder
And you see the life that you've left behind
When you think it over do you ever wonder?
What it is that holds your life so close to mine

You love the thunder and you love the rain
What you see revealed within the anger is worth the pain
And before the lightning fades and you surrender
You've got a second to look at the dark side of the man

You love the thunder and you love the rain
You know your hunger like you know your name
And I know you wonder how you ever came
To be a woman in love with a man in search of the flame

Draw the shade and light the fire
For the night that holds you and calls your name
And just like your lover, knows your desire
And the crazy longing that time will never tame

You love the thunder and you love the rain
You know your hunger like you know your name
I got your number if it's still the same
You can dream
But you can never go back the way you came"

Enjoy!
