#AprilMusicChallenge Day 27: A song that reminds you of your favorite holiday.

I was struggling to come up with what to post for this, so I decided to take a look at what other people were doing for it on GJB. And that's when I realized that the problem is what the rest of the world calls 'holiday' is what we in the U.S. refer to as 'vacation.' In the U.S. 'holiday' is a day that is designated as a national holiday and almost everyone has it off, like President's Day, Memorial Day, Labor Day, Christmas, etc. 'Vacation' is a day or series of days where you request time off from your employer, but you're the only one off.

After straightening that out the first song I thought of was an early Bee Gees song called "Holiday" which was posted previously by @jim_O_Rourke.

Then I thought of a song by The Go-Go's called "Vacation," which has been posted here by @LoopyLoo, @Chris, @moonpearl, @desmondbullen, and @Vickipedia.

Earlier this year I posted "We Used to Vacation" by Cold War Kids.

I also previously posted Mose Allison's "Your Mind Is on Vacation" after he passed away, which has also been done by @OnlytheBestestOfThings, @Sheldon_W, @Rest_In_Peace, and @timmuky, in addition to Van Morrison's version by @ada23 twice.

So I went back to the question and asked myself what was my favorite vacation? It could have been a trip to Paradise Island with a group of friends when I was still single. Warm weather, plenty of rum and steel drums, and I met someone from Canada who I had an international fling with for a while. It could have been a trip with friends to San Diego, where we enjoyed their wonderful weather. Or one of the many trips I have taken to Wildwood Crest on the Jersey Shore with my wife and two daughters. Sun and fun, dining out and hanging out as a family. But I settled on my trip to Italy in August of 2017 with my wife, where we met up our youngest daughter and toured the country for 12 days, seeing many fabulous sights and eating some great food.

With that in mind I found this clip of Madonna performing "Holiday" in Italy in 1987. I'm not particularly a fan of Madge or this song, but I decided it wouldn't kill me to post it since it fits the theme so well. The song is from her eponymous debut album written by Curtis Hudson and Lisa Stevens, and produced by John "Jellybean" Benitez. The song peaked on the Billboard Hot 100 in the U.S. at no. 16 and was on the chart for 21 weeks. In the UK the song peaked at no. 6 in 1984, and then a re-release peaked at no. 2 in 1985.

"Holiday Celebrate
Holiday Celebrate

If we took a holiday
Took some time to celebrate
Just one day out of life
It would be, it would be so nice

Everybody spread the word
We're gonna have a celebration
All across the world
In every nation
It's time for the good times
Forget about the bad times, oh yeah
One day to come together
To release the pressure
We need a holiday

You can turn this world around
And bring back all of those happy days
Put your troubles down
It's time to celebrate
Let love shine
And we will find
A way to come together
And make things better
We need a holiday

Holiday Celebrate
Holiday Celebrate

Holiday Celebrate
Holiday Celebrate

Holiday, Celebration
Come together in every nation"
