The Rain, The Park and Other Things (Live)

To quote Van Morrison, it's too late to stop now. I was reminded of this song yesterday when someone on Facebook was requesting guilty pleasure songs of bubblegum music that you knew you should change the radio station on but couldn't resist.

This is a psychedelic pop song co-written by Artie Kornfeld, the music producer of the original Woodstock Festival in 1969, and Steve Duboff. The song reached number 2 on the U.S. Billboard charts. It is unusual in that the lyrics do not contain the song's title, and is know to many as "The Flower Girl."

The studio version features session musicians, as The Cowsills did not play on their earliest recordings. They were a family group from Newport, RI, with five brothers, a sister and a mother. In 1967 the six siblings ranged in age from 8 to 19. They were the inspiration for the 1970s TV show "The Partridge Family."

Here is a link to a video of the more familiar studio recording: https://youtu.be/BiMCTjO_dHI
