leejohnson's current selection is:
Fish Heads
by Barnes & Barnes
#1978

Into the World of Weird for just one selection.

'Barnes & Barnes' were otherwise known as Billy Mumy, famous for playing the young 'Will Robinson' in the 1960s "Lost in Space" TV series, and Robert Haimer, a sometime collaborator with the band 'America'. The following comes from the Wikipedia article for this song:

Released as a single in 1978, it later featured on their 1980 album "Voobaha", and has often been played on the "Dr. Demento" show (it is the most honoured song in "Demento" show history). The song is about fish heads and all the things they are not able to do, such as playing baseball, wearing sweaters, dancing, playing drums, or being seen "drinking cappuccinos in Italian restaurants with Oriental women" (the song also notes that fish heads can do some unique things, like get into movies without having to buy tickets).

It is accompanied by a high-pitched chorus, achieved by speeding up the tape, which repeats the original's chorus: "Fish heads! Fish heads! Rolie polie fish heads! Fish heads! Fish heads! Eat them up! Yum!". The song was also featured on the 'Barnes & Barnes' 1982 "Fish Heads (Greatest Hits)" 12-inch release on 'Rhino Records'.

It was not popular as a single in either the UK or the US. And belongs firmly in the World of Weird.

Born in 1954, leaving education by 1972, 'glam' was my thing, "Ziggy" Bowie my hero. I was even the only guy in my town with the haircut (though not the carrot red colouring!). Therefore every seventh selection is a Bowie track.
