Walkin' My Cat Named Dog
by Norma Tanega
Mom would often tell me of her amazing cat she had as teen, a cat named "Dog." It wasn't until recently I realized that Dog was named of the song, which I wasn't aware of until They Might Be Giants did a cover. Then I happened to download this album for her equally amazing song "You're Dead" which is featured in the excellent film What We Do in the Shadows. At the time it was impossible for me to discern its age merely from the sound; April March had previously taught me never to judge music by its sound or cover. But even before I had time to look up its release, Mom immediately recognized it as the song from her youth. I've listened to the entire album a dozen times in the intervening weeks and I absolutely love the sound. It's one of those albums that could very easily be mistaken for a more contemporary one that is merely trying to ape that dated (but contagious) sound of the '60s singer-songwriter.
