mikecarp's current selection is:
That's Me Trying
by William Shatner
I don't really have a Valentine's Day post for today. However, if you still need to get your Valentine's Day fix, might I recommend these past jams?

For lovers:
Lucy Dacus - La Vie En Rose
The new Valentine's Day-themed single, of which Lucy Dacus stated: "I want someone to listen to this while running at top speed to the doorstep of the person they adore, ready to profess their deep, undying love.”

For cynics:
Fear Of Pop - In Love
This is a 1997 William Shatner/Ben Folds collaboration. It is essentially a jaded lover's hilariously bitter rant all wrapped up in a delicate, sweeping Ben Fold pop song. A classic.

And that brings us to today's post. Ben Folds and William Shatner reunited again in 2004 and released the album "Has Been". The album has a few standout tracks: The cover of Pulp's "Common People" is fun. The spoken word account of Shatner recounting the real life experience of finding his wife's body in their home pool is devastatingly sad. However, "That's Me Trying" is probably my favorite. It's a good tune, and I like how the narrative unfolds in a way that almost has you rooting for this terribly flawed father before it unravels and shows how far he has to go on his path to redemption.
