Wives and Lovers
by Jack Jones
Massive thanks to @Ulittletwit for a timely reminder of this American jazz singer who reached our shores in the Sixties and my ears through Mum's enjoyment of his singing. Today is a special date to remember her, while the lyrics of this particular song make me a little mad. 'LIttle girl', 'fix your hair' 'men will always be men'. Their only slightly older counterparts had been breaking codes in WWII, delivering planes ... suddenly in the Sixties, Mum and her peers, too old and married for hippiedom, and deliberately coaxed back into the home, were truly a lost generation.
