I Believe in Father Christmas
by Greg Lake and Ian Anderson
Too late for this? Not quite! The lyrics wish a happy New Year while the music evokes the whole festive season. So glad I've found this ... because driving off for Christmas I heard a classical arrangement of it (original posted last yuletide) on Classic FM (I'd tuned in for all the carols and choral stuff to get me in the mood). I've failed to find any classical recording of this but instead discovered this performance from St Bride's in Fleet Street, which is, of course, the spiritual home of journalists. Fleet Street is where I spent early years of working so it is meaningful. St Bride's is 'our' church, a little bit of the glory days of Fleet Street, when I brushed with extraordinary people, mavericks, eccentrics, not only tolerated but embraced. Some will say I might as well believe in Father Christmas but I believe 2019 will be OK. I wish a brave and Happy New Year to all you music aficionados. X
