Homethoughts From Abroad
by Clifford T Ward
Music is my life.

After my gorgeous wife, Janet, and my family, music is my all-consuming passion. Of course I love lots of other things but my music seeps through them all, knits them all together and makes them, well, me.

‘Twas ever thus.

I am 62 years old. After 60 years of generally good physical health (despite doing a very physical job) the past two years have been a catalogue of illness and physical ailments.

And then there's the never-ending mental illness.

Treatment for the physical stuff has been brilliant. I am so lucky to have been born in a country that offers universal, free healthcare. My mental healthcare..........?

As some of you know I put my hand up and asked for help, after fourty years, just 8 months ago. The help was immediate, efficient and wonderfully supportive. Once again, I am so lucky.

Clifford T Ward was a quiet, gentle man. He wrote lovely songs about love, life and being English. He died, after living with multiple sclerosis for 14 years, aged 57.

Clifford and my mental health are not connected.

Except, of course they are.

His beautiful songs are in my DNA. They are my oxygen.

They soothe my troubled mind.
