So, our 13 year-old daughter loves music. And she's now at that age where she's starting to explore beyond the stuff she's been listening to over the past five or six years.

At first, she naturally listened to whatever we were listening to. Then she started discovering her own pop music, Ed Sheeran, Taylor Swift, Adele etc. Two or three years ago, she heard Billie Eilish and a switch went on in her head.

This was the kind of stuff she wanted to hear; still recognisably pop but darker, more challenging. She loves Billie and she's going to see her next year in London. But she also started finding stuff like Phoebe Bridgers, Lana del Ray, Ezra Furman and listening to my old bands again, like Pixies, Joy Division and Nirvana.

And I vividly remember being her age and making the connections between the bands I was listening to and the bands those bands were influenced by. So now she's on a rock kick, asking me all about Velvet Underground, Lou Reed, Led Zeppelin (she's always known about Bowie because he's always on in our house).

But having recommended a whole heap of stuff she should listen to from the 60s and 70s, I realised that there was a dearth of female rock stars on that list. Then I remembered Patti...
