Save Me
by Dave Mason feat. Michael Jackson
Dave Mason, after being a founding member of Traffic, found himself in a weird spot in 1979. He'd had a huge hit with 1977's "We Just Disagree" but now he's playing himself in the roller-disco film "Skatetown, U.S.A.", performing two songs in the movie as well as writing and performing the film's theme song. He released an album with the very self-aware old-guy-doing-new-things title "Old Crest on a New Wave." The best single from the album features none other than the King of Pop, who was up in the top 10 in his own right with his first two singles from "Off the Wall" - "Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough" and "Rock with You".

This only hit #71 in the US, and I have no idea why it wasn't a bigger hit. (I only learned of it from the Yacht or Nyacht podcast, which gave it a 54.75 on the Yachtski scale, good enough for it to be considered #yachtrock http://www.yachtornyacht.com/songs/663/Save-Me )

Mason then largely disappeared from the music scene and didn't release another album for seven years.

He doesn't look a thing like Jesus, but he talks like a gentleman. Continually amused by the algorithm that selects artists for the "Into" field on the search page... mine currently says, "Into: Florida Department of Commerce, Hayley Westenra, Val Kilmer "
