#aprilmusicchallenge Day 29: Time for some country music. Do it!

“Every hand’s a winner
And every hand’s a loser
The best that you can hope for
Is to die in your sleep”

This is the song credited for breaking the dam and kicking off the country crossover era of the late 70s/early 80s. Written by Don Schlitz, this became Rogers’ signature tune. It reached #1 on the country chart and #16 on the US pop chart, while reaching #22 in the UK. It won the Grammy award for best male country vocal performance in 1980.

It’s fallen out of popularity now, but for a while this song and it’s buttery refrain were everywhere.
