The Sound of Sunshine
by Michael Franti & Spearhead
#Best21stCenturyPop

Michael Franti formed Spearhead out of the ashes of his previous group - which had opened for U2 on the ZooTV Tour. When Spearhead ditched Capitol Records to go indie in 2001, they were legally required to change their name so they became "Michael Franti & Spearhead". They then found success with the 2008 album "All Rebel Rockers" and the song "Say Hey (I Love You)". They then went back to Capitol for their next album ("The Sound of Sunshine") but kept their new name.

Franti's music and political activism are reflective of his San Francisco upbringing. His bio is fascinating. My favorite highlight: In 2000, Franti decided not to wear any shoes, initially for three days, to help raise awareness of homelessness. Since then, he has chosen to go barefoot except for occasionally wearing flip-flops as required to board an airplane or to be served in a restaurant.

If this song is too upbeat and poppy for you, Franti also included a very cool remix on the album which is more acoustic and chill, called "The Sound of Sunshine Going Down": https://youtu.be/oId40fbUKSs
