Yeah, Yeah, Yeah
by Peggy Lee
Just came upon a used copy of Peggy Lee's Singles Collection, a 4-cd box set, so--fair warning--expect a lot of Peggy in the weeks to come!

This is a collab with the amazing Louis Prima, who wrote the song but couldn't sing or solo here because of record label issues. Eventually Louis and Peggy both became Capitol artists of course, but this predates that.

Prima's energy is all over this. The notes say "he's obviously jumping up and down in front conducting, and Lee catches every nuance of the groove." Yup.

It feels a lot like rock n roll, in 1951!

Tim Ungs
Countrypolitan, ex-cosmopolitan (NYC, London, Sydney, Minneapolis). Currently obsessing over pop jazz vocalists like June Christy, Billie Holiday, Ella, Hoagie, Satch, Anita O'Day and kinda going through a major Peggy Lee phase. Also stan for current pop divas like Charli, Rosalia, Kesha, and Sky; and will never lose my love for country roots Charlie Rich, Merle, Milton Brown!!
Nothing currently playing...
